Green Mountain Rug School 2017 By Dawna Matthew Several of our members travelled down to Vermont to attend this year’s Green Mountain Rug School. The school ran two sessions, June 17 – 20 and June 21 – 24 and was held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Montpelier. Seven classes were offered in each session so there was something to tempt everyone. Plus Nancy Blood, artist in residence, was available to help anyone with a question or needing advice. Mary, Ti and I were in Davey DeGraff’s class, “A Painterly Approach to Depth and Colour”. I have long admired Davey’s work so it was wonderful to not only see it up close but to learn how she achieves the overall effect using texture and colour. Not that my project will look as beautiful as her rugs!!! 2017 Fête Nationale By Carolyn Ells About a dozen Guild members took part in Fête Nationale on the grounds of Centennial Hall as part of the City of Beaconsfield’s official celebrations. Our rug display and booth greeted people as they entered the artisan area. We enjoyed showing many people our rugs and talking about our craft. Several children tried hooking for the first time. Many of us noticed many wearable fibers among the animals in the petting area. It was a pleasant day to visit with each other and meet others in our community. Hooked On Canada Calendar   By Dawna Matthew Ontario Hooking Craft Guild 2017/2018 Calendar I just received my copy of the OHCG 2017/2018 “Hooked on Canada” Calendar. Congratulation to our member Brenda Ticehurst whose beautiful “Birch Trees” illustrates the month of September!  Well done, Brenda! Falling Birch Trees by Brenda Ticehurst Falling Birch Leaves   by Brenda Ticehurst This rug was the depiction of the view from our cottage veranda in late September. I saw a painting of Birches by Tim Packer in Ottawa and was delighted and decided to try to capture the large white birches against the lake and sky. The rug measures 36” x 48” and was hooked on linen with dyed new and recycled wool, cut in no. 6 and no. 8. Most of the recycled wool came from tweed jackets.

(Guy Rodgers) For the third consecutive year, the English Language Arts Network (ELAN) hosts  Arts Alive! Quebec , a province-wide cultural festival featuring Quebec artists in six different regions. Funded entirely by Canada 150, the summer series showcases creativity in six dynamic communities: Hudson, Quebec City, West Island, Knowlton, Huntingdon and Wakefield. Each location is no more than a 90 minute drive from Montreal. The festival, described as a moveable feast of music, theatre, dance, visual arts and film,  kicks off in Knowlton on June 25 and runs until the end of September.
